In that moment when you answer your phone and finally hear the words you have been crossing your fingers and toes for, “We’d like to offer you the position” it can be so tempting to immediately say, “YES!” before you have even had the chance to take a breath.
But no matter how much you are silently punching the air and jumping up and down in joy, keeping your composure and RESISTING the urge to say yes to accepting the offer straight away could be a good thing.
Why?
Because by hitting pause before you accept, will allow you to ensure that you are set up for success in your new position.
There is nothing wrong with taking the appropriate amount of time – 24 / 48 hours, to consider your job offer and during this time, do not be afraid to have an open and honest conversation with us about the offer.
Ask us those awkward questions, “Is there any scope for movement upwards on the salary?”, “What does the benefits package look like?” and “What does the firm’s bonus structure look like?” And also ask yourself, “Does this offer align with my own priorities, career goals and values?” – prioritise what matters to you most.
At the end of the day, we are here to help you negotiate and secure what is right for you in your next step.
Always ask for your offer in writing
Before you do anything - especially BEFORE you hand in your notice, you want to get the offer in writing. Ensure that there are no miscommunications about the details of the package that is on the table and seeing it in writing will also allow you to ask any further questions before you commit.
Once you have taken the time to consider everything and have come to the decision that you would like to say, “YES”, give us a call and we will do the rest!
